And that is how the city is believed to get its name. Another account would be that it was the French Canadian fur trappers who gave the city its name. While they set traps in the area where the city lies, the valley of the river filled with trees became a landmark for them and hence they called it as “La Riviere Boise”. Boise is the French word for wooded as bois is the French for wood. So what they called the place was “the wooded river”
